Albury musician takes ageing Mazda on third national tour
Albury musician Toby Mobbs, 35, is embarking on his third national tour in his 2004 Mazda3 that has clocked 400,000 kilometres.
Toby Mobbs is packing his touring kit into a car most people would have traded in years ago. Mobbs' 2004 Mazda3 has just passed 400,000 kilometres and is heading out on Wednesday, October 7, for a gruelling 28-day tour of Australia's third-largest cities.
Originally his mum's car, Mobbs shared it with her when he was studying in his home town of Wagga. Two previous national tours in the past four years have already racked up almost 30,000 kilometres.
The real challenge now is fuel: petrol at the remote Nullarbor Roadhouse has jumped to $3.16 a litre, up from $2.50 just two years ago. To fund the tour, Mobbs is selling vinyl records of his first two albums for $60 each, with every dollar going into the tank.
He is personally delivering copies across Albury-Wodonga before he leaves.
