Platina Resources seeks NT tin deposit after decades of mystery
Platina Resources is searching for a major tin deposit that big mining companies hunted for without success.
Platina Resources has applied for exploration rights across a huge area in the Birrindudu region of the Northern Territory to pursue the Jove tin project. Previous explorers, including major mining firms, found tin traces scattered across a 38-kilometre corridor but never found the source of the deposit.
Platina has identified four large magnetic anomalies using geophysical data that could point to a hidden tin system. The largest anomaly measures 6.3 kilometres by 5.4 kilometres.
Tin is important for Australia. It is used in electronics, electric vehicles and renewable energy.
The company is well-funded. It sold its scandium project to Rio Tinto for AU$20 million recently.

Why it mattersA major tin discovery would help Australia secure supply of a key material as global demand grows. Tin consumption is expected to grow 20 per cent by 2030.
AustraliaAn Australian explorer solving this geological puzzle could strengthen Australia's rare minerals position and create new mining jobs in the Northern Territory.
