Shearer wins both open titles after months of back injury recovery
Shearer Nicki Guttler won both open machine and open blade titles at the same event, thought to be a world first.
Riverina shearer Nicki Guttler competed at the 150th Forbes Show and won both open shearing titles at one event. Just months before, she was recovering from a serious back injury with bulging discs that squeezed her sciatic nerve.
The injury made it hard to get dressed or walk across her house. After two years recovering, she returned to shearing and competed for her late grandmother.
Guttler has broken other records too. She holds the eight-hour women's solo lamb record with 450 lambs sheared.
She became Australia's first woman to win an open speed shear. She hopes her success inspires other women in the male-dominated profession.
