A lighter found near a cubby area may have sparked a bushfire near Helensburgh on Tuesday evening.
Firefighters responded to a bushfire on Tuesday evening near Helensburgh. They arrived to find a lighter in a cubby area nearby.
The fire started in bush at The Ridge, which runs beside the Garawarra State Conservation Area, spreading toward homes. "Had we seen warmer weather and stronger winds, innocent outdoor fun could have escalated," firefighters said.
Crews from Helensburgh and Fire and Rescue NSW put out the fire and secured the area. Police are investigating the cause.
No injuries or significant damage were reported.
