Historic 612-hectare wool property near Yass offered for sale
Family farm near Yass goes on sale after more than a century owned by the Walkers.
Michael and his wife Katie are selling Ledgworth, their family farm near Yass. The property began in 1910 when George Merriman gave about 400 hectares to his daughter Ann and her husband Terry Walker.
Terry started a fine-wool stud at Ledgworth in 1914. The homestead was expanded by each generation.
It now spans about 600 square metres with pressed metal ceilings, sandstone verandahs and open fireplaces. The property stretches across 612.6 hectares with about 469 hectares of arable land.
It supports superfine Merinos, prime lambs, cattle and crops. Ledgworth sits 11 kilometres south-east of Yass and 35 kilometres from the ACT border.
Its closeness to Canberra has made it more valuable. Selling agent Col Medway called it one of the district's iconic properties.
Michael said he and Katie loved their time there. But managing the extensive house, cottages and gardens had become harder.
Expressions of interest close 29 October.
