Tamar Rowing Club marks 150 years with member Jim Guy's 60-year bond
Jim Guy has been at Tamar Rowing Club for over 60 years, serving as president for 13 years.
Jim Guy walked into Tamar Rowing Club in the 1960s without his gear. Club captain Michael Goodger told him "we'll wait for you", and he knew he was home.
More than sixty years later, Guy is a life member who has been president, historian, rower and coach. The club, based in Tasmania, celebrates its 150th anniversary from October 23 to 25 with a regatta, cocktail party and celebration dinner.
Throughout its history, the club survived four major floods. A particularly damaging one in 2016 caught members off guard when early warning systems failed.
The club rebuilt with a new two-storey clubhouse. Guy was part of the committee for the centenary celebrations, which saw former members return from across Australia and overseas to reunite with old crews.
