Four ships hit in Black Sea escalation toward NATO allies
Two ships sank and two were reportedly struck by drone attacks near Bulgaria and Romania in recent days.
A Turkish cargo ship carrying Ukrainian corn caught fire and sank just outside Romania's waters. Two crew members died.
Days later, two more commercial vessels were reportedly hit by drones about 130 kilometres off Bulgaria's coast. One ship was damaged.
The other sank with at least 12 crew missing. Romanian authorities blame aerial and sea drones but have not named who carried out the attack.
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy blames Russia. He calls it economic warfare meant to make the western Black Sea unfit for navigation.
Russia's embassy in Bulgaria denies involvement. Australian military expert Mick Ryan says Russia is undoubtedly behind the incidents.
The attacks mark a significant westward spread toward NATO member states.
