About 10 come forward over abuse at Bendigo school, lawyer reports
About 10 former students and parents contacted a lawyer investigating sexual abuse at Golden Square Secondary College.
Lawyer Molly Flowers, of Maurice Blackburn Lawyers, is investigating claims that a student at Golden Square Secondary College was groomed and abused by a teacher. The abuse allegedly occurred in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
After a public callout in April, about 10 former students and parents came forward. These accounts raised alarm bells about student safety at the time, Flowers said.
The investigation is still early. No court case has been filed yet.
Golden Square Secondary College closed in the late 2000s when Victoria merged schools in Bendigo. The Department of Education said it welcomes survivors coming forward.
It encourages anyone who experienced sexual abuse at a Victorian government school to report it to both the department and Victoria Police.
