WA football legend Ian Miller dies aged 76
Ian Miller, a Sandover medallist who became a second father figure to West Coast Eagles draftees, has died at 76.
Ian 'Serge' Miller won the Sandover Medal in 1972 and played 80 games for Fitzroy in the VFL before returning to Western Australia. Miller won a premiership with East Perth in his first year there and claimed the Simpson Medal as best on ground in the Grand Final.
Miller played 276 games across three clubs and was inducted into the West Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2008. In recent decades he worked as a player services coordinator at West Coast, where he became a father figure to interstate draftees far from home.
Will Schofield, a premiership defender for the Eagles, said Miller was the first to call when he lost his father and attended his father's funeral. Schofield described him as someone who "really cared about us as people".
Miller became a life member of West Coast in 2012.
