Carranballac rec reserve rebuild funded after fire
Carranballac Cricket Club secured $1.72 million in insurance payout to rebuild its clubroom and hall destroyed in January's fire.
The community hub burned down on January 9. The community hub can finally be rebuilt after the insurance payout was confirmed this week.
The club's president Luke Jackson said relief swept through the community when the news came. Initial insurance offers underestimated the true value of the buildings.
Offers did not account for the kitchen and bathrooms, so negotiations took eight months. A single updated community facility will replace the 1950s clubroom and adjoined hall.
The club will play this season using marquees on the oval while reconstruction takes shape. It starts with a fundraiser hoedown on October 3.
Building work is aimed to finish ahead of next season.
