Newcastle student tower reaches full height with 445 affordable beds
A nine-storey student accommodation building at University of Newcastle has reached full height. It will hold 445 beds.
The University of Newcastle announced Tuesday that its new student building has reached full height. Muloobinba House sits on the corner of Civic Lane and Worth Place.
Muloobinba House will provide 445 beds for student housing at affordable rates. The name comes from the Awabakal language.
It means the place where the Hunter River meets the sea. It also translates to 'place of sea ferns'.
Muloobinba House honours Awabakal and Worimi people as traditional custodians of Newcastle. Ground-level spaces include a music room and areas for cooking and socialising.
Construction began in September 2025 and is expected to finish in 2027.
