Hindu community offers free clay idol workshops to protect Lake Tuggeranong
After four idols were found in Lake Tuggeranong, Hindu leaders teach devotees to use clay and immerse them at home.
Lake Tuggeranong revealed four idols at its bottom during an August inspection, sparking backlash. The Hindu Council of Australia's ACT branch condemned the finds and urged devotees to use biodegradable clay idols.
Ganesh Chaturthi began September 14. Local Hindu leaders held workshops on making clay idols for home immersion in buckets.
Lakhan Sharma's temple has recommended this for years. Dr Shanti Reddy is ACT Hindu Council chair and a geologist.
