Java brings real Indonesian cooking to Braidwood without shortcuts

Daniar Robinson has opened Java, Braidwood's only Indonesian restaurant, and it books out on weekends.

Java is Braidwood's first Indonesian restaurant. It's run by Daniar Robinson, an Indonesian chef who lives in town.

The restaurant fills up fast on Fridays and Saturdays. The menu says 'real Indonesian, no shortcuts' and changes with the seasons.

Daniar uses French cooking methods like slow roasting to bring out Indonesian flavours. Signature dishes include tahu goreng (fried tofu) with a crunchy outside and soft inside, served with a sweet and spicy dip.

The ayam balado features chicken thighs cooked twice in a chilli and lime sauce. The shop has pressed-tin ceilings and Indonesian decorations.

Why it mattersBraidwood struggles to attract visitors despite excellent dining; Java is a genuine draw for food travellers from Canberra and Sydney.

AustraliaBraidwood now has an authentic Indonesian restaurant that may help the regional town compete for weekend food tourism.
