Farmers to share solar power across properties under new rules
Campaign backed by 30 groups seeks rule changes to let farmers use solar power across different properties.
The Electrify Australia campaign launches Monday, backed by consumer, business, environmental and union groups. The campaign wants governments to change electricity rules.
Farmers want to redirect solar power between properties even across separate titles. Currently every farm meter has its own number.
Once solar power is exported it enters the wholesale market. Then it cannot be redirected to another meter.
This forces farmers to sell at low rates and buy back at full retail price.
