Peter V'landys quits Racing NSW after 22 years to run the NRL
Peter V'landys is stepping down as Racing NSW chief executive after 22 years to become the NRL's new executive chairman.
The 64-year-old has spent more than two decades transforming horse racing in Racing NSW, generating an estimated $3.5 billion in funding for the industry. V'landys's most famous win was a 2012 High Court battle that forced corporate bookmakers to pay a 1.5 per cent tax to racing.
V'landys also launched The Everest in 2017, now the world's richest turf race. Racing NSW chair Dr Saranne Cooke called him "the most effective and successful administrator" in Australian sport history.
V'landys has been ARL Commission chairman since 2019 and will now take a new executive chairman role at the NRL, created when CEO Andrew Abdo left for Tennis Australia. His departure from Racing NSW becomes official in November after long-service leave ends.
