RBA officials signal more rate hikes ahead

The RBA is expected to raise interest rates on September 29. Markets signal more hikes ahead.

senior Reserve Bank of Australia officials are speaking publicly this week to signal their stance. Chief economist Sarah Hunter appears at a Canberra summit on Monday.

Governor Michele Bullock goes before a parliamentary committee on Friday. The officials are expected to say that inflation is still too high.

They are likely to leave the door open to further rate hikes. The central bank has already lifted rates three times in 2026.

Hawkish comments from Hunter and deputy governor Andrew Hauser last week shook bond markets. Westpac's economics team recently stopped calling for a pause.

But chief economist Luci Ellis still thinks a November move is better than September.
