Trump has made 28,700 stock trades in 17 months, more than all of Congress
A Bloomberg analysis found Trump made roughly 28,700 securities trades in 17 months. This far exceeded any sitting lawmaker's activity.
Trump has made about 80 trades every market day since taking office, according to Bloomberg. Trump's June disclosure showed more than 21,000 trades in 2025 alone, worth between $600 million and $1.86 billion.
Trump's first-quarter filing revealed roughly 3,600 transactions in 90 days. Trump's trading marks a sharp break from his first term, when his holdings consisted mainly of real estate and private businesses.
He now actively trades in municipal bonds, corporate bonds, bank preferred securities and bond ETFs. Ethics experts say this is unusual.
Since Lyndon Johnson, essentially every president has used a blind trust, held index funds or owned Treasury securities. Richard Painter was chief White House ethics lawyer under George W. Bush.
He told Fortune the practice raises conflict-of-interest concerns. The White House says third-party institutions manage the accounts through computer-based index models, though Trump's family manages the trust itself.

Why it mattersHeavy trading by the sitting president raises questions about conflicts of interest. He holds power over markets and regulations. That power creates risk.
AustraliaNo direct impact yet, but if US markets become unstable or regulatory decisions appear influenced by Trump's portfolio, Australian investors and traders could be affected.
