Telopea Park High School in Canberra has won planning approval to expand. The government rezoned a neighbouring playing field.
The $53.4 million project will add 150 permanent places to the Senior Campus. The school will build new science labs, performing arts facilities, and music rooms.
It will also build a multipurpose hall and a double gymnasium. The rezoning of Blocks 4 and 5 in Forrest allows the land for educational purposes.
The three-storey development will include upgraded outdoor learning areas. It will add 81 new parking spaces.
Public facilities will be open to the community outside school hours. Community input earlier this year drew 45 comments, mostly in support.
Some residents worried about green space loss and traffic. The Major Plan Amendment still needs Legislative Assembly approval.
