Police rescue woman held captive overnight in Canberra home
A 43-year-old man was arrested in Canberra. He allegedly held a woman captive overnight. He assaulted her while holding a knife.
Police rescued an injured woman from a north Canberra home after she sent distress messages to a friend. A concerned friend received text messages from the woman asking for help about 6.45pm on Saturday, September 19.
Police went to a Higgins address and used emergency powers to enter the home. Officers could not reach anyone inside.
Officers found the woman injured. They arrested a 43-year-old man who was already subject to bail conditions.
The man is accused of carrying a knife and threatening the woman. He assaulted her over several hours.
He damaged property. He prevented her from leaving or calling for help.
He will face ACT Magistrates Court on September 21. The charges are forcible confinement, aggravated common assault, and related offences.
