Man sentenced to jail for six-year access to child abuse material
Jeffrey David McKean is 51. He pleaded guilty to downloading child abuse material between October 2019 and September 2025.
Jeffery David McKean was sentenced to four months in jail by Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Thursday, September 17. A witness discovered images of naked children on his old mobile phone after seeing a suspicious notification.
Police seized both phones and found material spanning nearly six years. When interviewed, McKean told officers the images were just pictures.
He claimed he found them through a link. The magistrate noted McKean showed limited remorse.
He believed the crime was victimless. But the material shows real harm to real children.
McKean will serve an 18-month community correction order with mental health treatment and supervision. He must register as a sex offender for 15 years.
