Intruder steals vehicle from RAAF Darwin in second lockdown this year

An intruder bypassed security at RAAF Base Darwin yesterday afternoon. He assaulted a defence force member and drove off in a stolen vehicle.
The base was immediately locked down. Police spotted the car heading south on the Stuart Highway near Winnellie around 4:30pm.
They lost sight of it during the pursuit. The incident marks the second lockdown at the base in two months.
The previous alarm in August was triggered by a training exercise. The base is undergoing major security upgrades worth almost $160 million.
These upgrades include a new high-capacity main entrance. The breach is concerning because of this timing.
The offender has not been caught and investigations are continuing.
