Bendigo op shop opens with team who lived through prison and addiction
After overcoming addiction and prison, David Harris and Daniel Lloyd now lead a new charity op shop opening Friday.
Teen Challenge, a Kyabram-based charity helping people overcome addiction, is opening the Storehouse Thrift Clearance Centre in Bendigo on Friday. The charity's leadership openly shares their struggles.
David Harris spent 14 years in drugs and alcohol before prison; a prison chaplain helped him into rehab. Daniel Lloyd battled a gambling addiction since his teens, sometimes losing about $1000 per bet.
Both say recovery inspired them to help others. Helen Harris, David's wife, watched his transformation and they just became best friends before marrying.
The shop, which closed about six months ago due to about $80,000 yearly costs, relies on volunteers to stay open. It sells clothes, shoes, DVDs and other items.
