Pelican diagnosed with H5 bird flu in South Australia
A pelican found at Edithburgh is the nation's first confirmed case of H5 infection in the species.
South Australian authorities confirmed the case on Monday at Edithburgh on the Yorke Peninsula. The case is one of four other bird flu events across the state.
A dead sea lion found near Victor Harbor has been sent for testing, following confirmation last week that another sea lion was infected. A third marine animal, a dolphin washed ashore at Port Noarlunga, cannot be tested due to decomposition.
South Australia has now recorded 295 confirmed H5 cases in animals overall.
