Will McLachlan seeks trade from Lions to Demons
Brisbane Lions forward Will McLachlan has requested a trade to Melbourne after struggling for AFL game time despite strong VFL form.
Will McLachlan, 21, has asked the Lions to trade him to Melbourne after failing to break into Brisbane's AFL side. McLachlan played just one game this season during the Lions' premiership run, despite booting 35 goals in 11 games for their VFL team.
McLachlan made his AFL debut last year but has managed only seven games across two seasons. Melbourne has been keen on him since his breakout 2024 start with the Geelong Falcons as an over-aged player.
Lions list boss Dom Ambrogio said McLachlan has no issues with the club or Brisbane itself, just wants more opportunity. Ambrogio compared him to premiership star Kai Lohmann, saying both are quick, exciting country players who bring energy.
