Hoekstra scores 45 and takes a wicket on Sheffield Shield debut
Harry Hoekstra scored 45 and claimed Jake Weatherald for a duck in his first Sheffield Shield match for Victoria.
Harry Hoekstra walked into the crease with Victoria in deep trouble at 8-173 and walked out having scored 45 and stitched a 62-run partnership with Doug Warren to bring the home side to 244. On his Shield debut for Victoria against South Australia at Junction Oval on Wednesday, the 20-year-old then opened the bowling and took the wicket of SA's dropped Test opener Jake Weatherald, who was caught behind without scoring.
South Australia reached 1-4 at stumps on day one in reply. Hoekstra, who made his Victorian one-day debut last month, said the adrenaline from batting carried him through his bowling spell.
"If you'd given me that at the start of the day, I would have bitten your hand off," he said. The hard part, he acknowledged, is keeping up the form.
