Qantas and airport security staff strike Thursday across four cities
400 Sydney security staff strike Thursday in two-hour blocks plus 500 Qantas ground crew for 24 hours.
Unions are escalating industrial action over pay and job security. Up to 400 security staff will stop work twice on Thursday morning and afternoon.
At the same time, Qantas ground crews across freight, Link and related services will walk off for a full day. Ground crews operate at Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth airports.
Sydney Airport has warned of possible delays and urged passengers to allow extra time. Qantas says its contingency plans mean no flight cancellations, though the airport operator expects disruption.
The TWU union notes workers voted overwhelmingly to strike. Qantas has split its workforce into 38 separate companies, the union says, to drive down pay and conditions.
