Jones banned for high bump, misses must-win Crows match
Adelaide's Eloise Jones will miss Sunday's crucial Melbourne game after the AFLW Tribunal upheld her one-match suspension.
Tribunal chair Renee Enbom rejected Adelaide's appeal and upheld Eloise Jones's one-match ban. Jones was charged with careless conduct of medium impact and high contact against North Melbourne's Ruby Tripodi.
Adelaide argued Jones was genuinely contesting only for the ball and protected Tripodi by turning her body. Enbom disagreed.
Enbom ruled that Jones chose to bump her opponent high with significant force to clear the way for the ball. The impact was medium, creating a real risk of a broken jaw or head injury.
Jones now misses Adelaide's must-win match against Melbourne on Sunday. Adelaide hopes West Coast defeats Hawthorn on Saturday to keep the door open for a top-eight spot.
The decision ends Jones's case after almost 90 minutes of submissions and 60 minutes of deliberation.
