Rowan Marshall traded to Geelong as St Kilda captain finds out on air

Geelong acquired 30-year-old ruckman Marshall with pick 14, ending his long pursuit of a trade.

St Kilda co-captain Callum Wilkie was live on camera answering a question about teammate Rowan Marshall when a reporter told him the trade had gone through. Wilkie laughed and thought it was a joke.

Marshall, a 30-year-old ruckman, has tried to leave the Saints for two years running and boycotted Monday's best and fairest night to push for the move. Geelong gets Marshall plus a future third-round pick in exchange for selection 14.

St Kilda general manager Lenny Hayes said the club was pleased with the compensation and wished Marshall well after a decade of service. Marshall responded with a statement thanking supporters and staff for their support over ten years at the club.
