Mirra Andreeva, the 19-year-old French Open champion, beat Ekaterina Alexandrova 7-6, 7-6 to reach the China Open semi-final.
Andreeva recovered from 5-3 down in the opening set to edge a tiebreak, then was serving for victory at 5-3 in the second when Alexandrova fought back. The Russian teenager regained control in the second tiebreak to seal her first Beijing semi-final berth.
Nikola Bartunkova, the Czech 20-year-old, beat Karolina Muchova 6-3, 6-0 in 67 minutes after dominating the Wimbledon finalist. Bartunkova's breakthrough win will push her into the top-30 for the first time.
