Hawthorn beats Bulldogs but loses captain Bates to knee injury
Hawthorn beat Western Bulldogs 41-30 at its new Dingley home, but captain Emily Bates suffered a serious knee injury.
Hawthorn won 41-30 against Western Bulldogs in its first match at the new Dingley home. Irish forward Aine McDonagh was the standout, kicking a career-high four goals and extending her lead in the goalkickers race.
Hawthorn dominated the third quarter, kicking five goals to none to build the winning margin. The result moves the Hawks to 3-2 for the season.
The win came at a cost: captain Emily Bates suffered what appears to be a serious knee injury late in the third quarter when her leg got stuck under her in a tackle. She was stretchered off the field.
