World Rowing rejects Queensland's claim that Rockhampton course is approved
World Rowing says the Rockhampton Olympic rowing course still needs major technical work before final approval.
Queensland Premier David Crisafulli announced Thursday about an independent report. The report showed the Fitzroy River course had passed assessment and was ready.
World Rowing, Paddle Worldwide, Rowing Australia and Paddle Australia issued a joint statement on Friday. They said the report was not the final step.
The bodies requested confirmation of several key technical details. This included athlete access to services and facilities.
WaterProof Marine Consultancy completed the independent report. The state did not share all findings.
Queensland's rowing community criticized the delayed release. QRowing union chairman Gary Merritt said the government made a similar premature claim before.
That claim was made in March through Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie.
