Rowan Marshall skips St Kilda awards as trade to Geelong stalls

St Kilda ruck Rowan Marshall will not attend Monday's awards night because he remains set on being traded to rival Geelong.

Marshall, 30, has boycotted the club's best and fairest ceremony, feeling it would be wrong to attend while pushing hard for a move. Marshall has one year left on his contract and is unhappy at the club, seeking a fresh start at Geelong.

St Kilda has proposed giving up pick 14 and first-round pick Harley Barker to land him, but Geelong has rejected the offer twice. The Cats view pick 14 alone as too high a price for a player who turns 31 next month and is the club's second-choice ruck.

Marshall has made clear he wants out regardless.

Why it mattersA high-profile ruck's departure would reshape both clubs' forward plans and signals the end of his time at St Kilda after years of service.

AustraliaThe AFL trade period is in full swing and this deadlock between two Victorian rivals could reshape the league's ruck stocks heading into next season.
