Lake Macquarie bridge replacement starts with October closure
Bridge 263 replacement in Teralba begins with a $7.6 million investment and two-week closure from October 19.
The Australian government contributed $5 million and the council added $2.6 million for the project. The old bridge was in poor structural condition.
The new bridge will support heavy vehicles, allow unrestricted two-way traffic, and include a shared pathway and boardwalk. From October 19, the bridge closes for two weeks while a temporary single-lane crossing is built.
Drivers from northern Racecourse Road heading to Teralba will need to take a 15-kilometre detour through Barnsley. The full project is expected to finish by August 2027.
