Boy, 9, dies in Katherine drainpipe
A nine-year-old boy died after entering a drainpipe in Katherine, NT.
The boy entered a drainpipe at Katherine Low Level around 5:15pm on Tuesday and did not resurface. NT Police deployed divers who found him at 1:45am.
The child's family was at the scene and is receiving support. NT Police Commander Neil Hayes called it an incredibly tragic incident and said a report would be prepared for the coroner.
A long-running campaign across the NT has warned children about the dangers of playing in pipes and drains, especially during the wet season.
