Two men charged over Cootamundra unit fire; one refused bail
A 20-year-old was charged with deliberately setting a fire that destroyed a Cootamundra unit, while an 18-year-old faces theft charges.
Police charged a 20-year-old man with property damage by fire. A blaze destroyed a unit on Sutton Street in Cootamundra early on September 11.
Emergency services arrived around 2:25am to find the unit well alight. Nearby residents were evacuated as firefighters worked to put out the blaze.
Paramedics treated several people for smoke inhalation. Investigators also charged an 18-year-old man for allegedly stealing wheels and wheel nuts at a separate property.
Both men were arrested and charged with stealing property valued at less than $2000. They were also charged with damaging or destroying property valued at more than $5000.
The 20-year-old has been granted conditional bail. He will appear before Cootamundra Local Court on September 21.
