Gunmen kill 17 at South Africa tavern in Wedela shooting
Suspects reportedly armed with AK-47s and pistols opened fire on patrons at a tavern near Johannesburg, killing 17 and wounding 15.
South African police launched a manhunt after a shooting at a tavern in Wedela township, southwest of Johannesburg, on Saturday night at 9:30pm. Gunmen entered the venue and fired on customers both outside and inside, then searched some patrons and took their cellphones before fleeing in two vehicles.
Emergency services confirmed 13 males and four females dead at the scene. Fifteen others with gunshot wounds were taken to hospital.
The suspects were reportedly armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols. Police said two vehicles were set alight during the incident.
No motive for the attack has been established and no arrests have been made.
