Man found guilty of rifle assault on woman in shipping container
Christopher Hui Tong was guilty of shooting and assaulting a woman with a rifle at a Landsborough property on December 28, 2024.
An argument on December 28, 2024, erupted at a Landsborough property when Christopher Hui Tong came to blows with a 25-year-old woman. The woman fled to a shipping container.
Hui Tong retrieved a .22 rifle and fired about two to three shots at the container, then entered and struck the woman twice in the face with the rifle butt. The woman required stitches inside and outside her mouth.
The woman and Hui Tong's wife escaped to Stawell police station. Hui Tong handed himself in a week later.
A Ballarat jury found him guilty of discharging a firearm with reckless disregard for safety and intentionally causing injury. He was acquitted of making a threat to kill.
Sentencing is pending.
