Bomb disposal squad called to Albury's tax office over suspicious package
Police called the Bomb Disposal Unit to Albury after discovering a suspicious package outside the Australian Taxation Office.
A suspicious package was found outside the Australian Taxation Office in central Albury on Monday afternoon. Albury officers and firefighters cordoned off an area on Smollett Street between Olive and Kiewa streets.
Officers from the Sydney-based Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit were called to check the item as a precaution. Smollett Street was expected to be closed for several hours.
Hazardous material buckets were placed outside the tax office. Police said there was no immediate threat to the public.
The tax office had experienced several past incidents involving suspicious items and white powder.
