Ford targets 60 percent of Australian market in three years with China models

Ford Australia currently only competes in 30 percent of the new-vehicle market and plans to reach 60 percent within three years.

Ford Australia plans a major lineup expansion after shrinking its presence in recent years. The brand currently competes in just 30 percent of the car market following the discontinuation of models like the Fiesta, Focus, Puma, Escape and Mondeo.

CEO Fadi Mawal said this is not enough. Ford aims to double that to 60 percent within three years and reach 90 percent by decade's end.

Two China-sourced models are coming: the Transit City and Bronco Basecamp. The Ranger and Everest account for 88.5 percent of Ford's current Australian sales.

Ford Australia will continue local development and tuning for new models.
