Emmett Sheard was found guilty of shooting with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in a Gateshead home in 2023. Sheard, 35, armed himself with a rifle and used a false ruse to enter the drug dealer's home.
Once inside, he demanded drugs and cash, then fired five shots, hitting the man's arm and the woman's leg. Emmett Sheard used another person as a human shield during the shooting.
Sheard has spent more than two-thirds of his adult life in prison. He was acquitted of murder in a 2020 stabbing death at Parklea Correctional Centre but was deemed an extreme threat inmate.
The pair faced a sentence hearing in NSW District Court on Monday.
