Taylor tops Australia for young home buyers, with median age just 31
Taylor in Canberra has Australia's lowest median age of home owners at just 31.
New research from Ray White ranks Taylor, a Gungahlin suburb in Canberra, as the most attractive suburb in Australia for home buyers under 35. The median age of home owners is just 31 and continues to drop.
Fewer than 22 percent are investors, well below the national average. Four other Gungahlin suburbs made the top 30: Moncrieff (median age 32), Throsby (32.3), and Crace (34.8).
Two Molonglo suburbs also featured: Coombs claimed second place nationally with a median age of 31.4, and Denman Prospect came in at 32.5. Canberra's intentional development of new suburbs with varied housing types and community spaces appeals more to young buyers than similar suburbs in Sydney or Perth.
The ACT's stamp duty exemption for first home buyers also helps affordability.
