Mazda driver's footpath escape costs him two extra months in jail
Damien Karl Munster drove a Mazda onto a footpath at 80kmh to escape police, earning 10 months jail and delayed release.
On January 9 in Corowa, police spotted a silver Mazda with fake Victorian number plates. Police moved to stop the car, but it accelerated.
The driver, Damien Karl Munster, 30, faced a dead-end street but drove onto a footpath at up to 80kmh instead of stopping. Police decided it was too dangerous to pursue.
Munster's car was later found abandoned in a nearby car park. Munster was charged with dangerous and disqualified driving, using an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, and not stopping when directed.
Albury Local Court sentenced him to 10 months jail, pushing his release date from December 2026 to February 2027.
