40-year-old Perth artist Andrew Grero uses his first solo show to depict living with Parkinson's.
Perth muralist Andrew Grero was diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson's at 36. Symptoms started with shoulder pain, then difficulty brushing his teeth and dragging his right leg.
Now 40, his first solo exhibition Signal Lost depicts Parkinson's as a monster. A striking piece titled Monster shows how the disease affects his relationship with his two-year-old son.
The boy becomes frightened when Grero is off medication and struggling to move. More than 1,100 Australians under 65 are diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson's each year.
Grero uses bright colours and everyday objects like watches and food to show what the disease actually means beyond visible tremors.
