Champion ram sells for record $34,000 at Bendigo show

A Border Leicester ram fetched a record price of $34,000 at the Elite Show & Sale, equivalent to the cost of a car. Will Schilling's champion won the show's supreme exhibit award, beating champions from White Suffolk, Suffolk, and other breeds.
The ram had won his class at the Australian Sheep & Wool Show in July, then the supreme longwool exhibit at the Royal Adelaide Show before Bendigo. Schilling said it was the best ram he had ever bred.
He won't sell it at the event sale but is considering offering it at his own on-property sale in coming weeks. Record entry numbers came across all six breeds competing in Bendigo, with 185 rams and ewes sold across two sales.
