Henty Swampies end 12-year premiership drought with six-point grand final win
Henty defeated Osborne by six points on Saturday to claim its first premiership in twelve years.
The Swampies came through a tense finish to win at Walbundrie despite Osborne kicking five of the last six goals to almost pull off a comeback. President Matt Kilo said the win was about far more than football - it was a celebration for the whole community and the volunteers who had sustained the club through its drought.
Kilo admitted relief washed over him when the final siren went, but he never lost faith in the group. Coach Brenden 'Chisel' Maclean has been central to the turnaround since taking over three years ago.
With a young list now wearing medals, Kilo hopes this marks the start of sustained success rather than a one-off.
