Shellharbour Hospital escape ends in two-suburb manhunt
A 26-year-old under police guard escaped Shellharbour Hospital. This sparked a manhunt. Police found him 2km away in Barrack Heights.
A 26-year-old man escaped police custody at Shellharbour Hospital around 3:15pm on September 17. Police deployed ground crews and the dog unit.
The PolAir helicopter searched across Blackbutt, Barrack Heights, Oak Flats, Warilla and Lake Illawarra. Residents of these areas may have seen the Cessna aircraft circling overhead during the search.
The 26-year-old was found at a house in Barrack Heights, almost two kilometres from the hospital. Police arrested him at Linum Place and took him to Lake Illawarra Police Station.
He was charged with escaping custody and refused bail.
