Shraddha dominates Gimcrack Stakes in Freedman's two-year-old streak
Shraddha won the Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick, extending Michael Freedman's record with juvenile horses.
Shraddha dominated the Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on Saturday, leading from the 300-metre mark with her ears pricked the whole way. The filly cost $250,000 as a yearling and raced with authority despite jockey Tommy Berry initially hunting for cover.
Freedman, who has trained two of the last six Golden Slippers, compared Shraddha to Manaal, another two-year-old he trained three years ago. Manaal went on to win the Group 1 ATC Sires' Produce Stakes and three more black-type races.
Freedman says he has no secret formula with young horses, just lets them tell him what they're ready for. He plans to spell Shraddha before her autumn carnival campaign.
