Disqualified driver jailed after taking wheel, testing positive for drugs
Benjamin Vagg received a seven-month community sentence for driving while disqualified and testing positive for drugs.
A Corowa man took over driving a work car on Sydney's Cahill Expressway after his colleague said he needed a break. Benjamin Vagg's licence had been disqualified and was not due to be restored until August.
Police pulled the Toyota Corolla over for random drug testing in April. Vagg tested positive for cannabis and methamphetamine.
Vagg pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, driving with a cancelled licence, and driving with illicit drugs in his blood. Judge Sally McLaughlin imposed a seven-month sentence to be served in the community via intensive corrections order.
The order included an 8pm to 5am curfew for the first two months. He was also fined $900 and disqualified from driving for a further 12 months.
