Volkswagen ID.3 GTI adds rear-wheel drive, 601km range, launching 2027
The ID.3 GTI pairs a 240kW rear-wheel drive motor with a 79kWh battery for 601km of range.
Volkswagen has unveiled the ID.3 GTI, a rear-wheel-drive model. The electric motor delivers 240 kilowatts and 545 newton-metres of torque, hitting 100km/h in 5.6 seconds with a top speed of 200km/h.
The 79-kilowatt-hour battery offers 601 kilometres of driving range under the WLTP test cycle. Fast charging speed jumps to 183 kilowatts, eight kilowatts faster than the outgoing GTX.
The GTI adds aggressive styling with a sculpted front bumper, honeycomb grille, and gloss-black trim. The interior gets a new 12.9-inch touchscreen, physical buttons for air-con and audio, and grippier fabric front seats with a Superclark pattern inspired by the original Golf GTI.
European order books open in early 2027. Australia's uptake remains uncertain because the local market heavily favours SUVs over small hatchbacks.
