Pipes on Dutch rail tracks block major routes through Amsterdam
Metal pipes were deliberately placed on tracks in multiple locations on Tuesday. This caused widespread disruption across the Netherlands rail network.
Major rail routes across the Netherlands were disrupted after metal pipes were found on tracks in multiple places. The country's railway operator ProRail said the incident appeared to be intentional sabotage.
At least 15 disruptions were recorded across the network. Services halted around Zwolle, Deventer and Amersfoort.
One train hit one of the objects near Steenwijk, but no injuries were reported. Police are investigating but no suspects or motives have been found.
The disruption was so extensive that replacement bus services could not be arranged. A Eurostar train from Amsterdam to Paris was also delayed.
